The Second BTC Scenario Contest was held from October 2009 to January 2010.  For this contest、training instructors were divided into their respective simulator groups and presented with the contest theme. Each group then developed a new simulator training scenario according to the theme. The scenarios were then judged based on predetermined criteria.

1. Details
(1) Theme
The theme for this contest was “Essential training for Middle class III operators.”  In choosing this theme, it was believed that the wide ranging scope of Middle class III training would likely lead to the creation of a number of useful training scenarios.  Middle class III operators are the class of operators which go on to become senior operators.  Thus, it was required that scenarios be developed on the premise that the operators possess a high technical skill level including AOPs1 and EOPs2.  It was also necessary for the scenarios to include training on important points that Middle class III operators should understand regarding how to lead other operators.
(2) Participant Teams

Each simulator group from the training department and one group from the technology department for a total of five teams participated in the contest.

2.Competition Results
All of the scenarios that were developed had excellent viewpoints, making the final decision difficult for the judges.  As it turns out, taking the top prize by a narrow margin was an EOP ‘water level unknown’ scenario including an unprecedented progression presented by the No. 2 Simulator group
.

3. Conclusion
Five excellent scenarios, each with different aims were created and presented to the judges for discussion and consideration.  The following points were identified and confirmed as areas that should be given more consideration with regards to operator training.  Therefore, BTC will consider a way that they may be applied to future Middle class III training:
(1) Application of LCO Deviation Training to Current Curriculum
-Accurately providing information to the responsible operator for the purpose of making LCO deviation assessment is a necessary skill
(2) Development of scenario for learning basic command points
Need to come up with a scenario which teaches a reliable, basic method for solving problems.
(3) Scenario Viewpoints
Moderately high level scenarios include an event which requires the decision to utilize AOP/EOPs.  In addition, an event which requires a high level of plant knowledge is also effective.
